What is Website Hosting?
When we design and develop a new website for a client, for the first time, we always offer one full year’s free web hosting. As the website hosting package is free, clients rarely question why they need one, or ask us, “What is website hosting?”.
It’s not usually until the next year’s hosting bill is sent out that we have to explain what a website hosting package is and as we are in the midst of sending out the invoices for this year’s hosting, I thought I’d write a quick blog to explain, in laymans’ terms, just why everyone with a website needs web hosting.
Web Hosting Explained
Put simply, a web hosting package is a place to store your website. Your hosting server stores your HTML files, images, PHP files, PDF files, etc and allows other people with access to the internet to access your files and read your website.
At it’s basic level, a web host is simply a computer server with a high speed Internet connection.
It’s like owning a bricks and mortar shop and renting a space in a shopping mall, or to take it to the most basic level, paying for your pitch at a market or a boot fair so you can display your goods on the stall.
Some website hosting companies allow you to pay for your hosting package monthly, but as we only charge £79.95 plus VAT to our clients for a year’s standard hosting, our clients pay for a year in advance. We do offer other packages for clients that use masses of bandwidth, but the majority of websites require only the standard web hosting package.
I hope that explains why you need website hosting, but if you have any questions, leave a comment and I’ll answer you as best I can

Web Hosting explanation I have found! I’ve had to nick it, as I can’t point my clients to your link, as your hosting package is much cheaper than mine! Stealing someone else’s comment to make your spam comment look better is low and very lazy James. That wasn’t the immediate alarm bell that rang to tell me you’re a spam bastard, it was the fact you try to spam me numerous times a day on different blogs items! I bet Mactonweb are really proud of your skills, you muppet! BM

There are some interesting points in time in this article but I don’t know if I see all of them center to heart. There is some validity but I will take hold opinion until I look into it further. Good article , thanks and we want more! Added to FeedBurner as well. Website hosting - what is is? Thanks for this first class article that explains, in layman’s language, what web hosting is. - Now that would have achived the link-back that you are looking for. It took me 14 seconds to write. Why do you bother to waste your time using shite spam software that creates sentences that make no sense at all that will never get a link back in a million years. Is it because you are simply lazy, or is it, as I suspect, that you are an out-and-out moron?

That was very detailed information about web hosting. But I’m amazed by the lower prices that you are offering. Just £79.95 for a year!! That is really cool. Is it only for those customers who pay it in advance or you allow them to pay in installments? Web hosting is a good application for safe storage and sharing of files. Hosting is paid in advance. At only £79.95, it’s only £6.66 per month, which would cost too much in administration as a monthly payment, unless it was a major part of the company’s income, which it isn’t. Our hosting is really targeted at our development and design customers, we don’t go out of our way to promote it as a stand alone product. BM
