Google Instant Blacklist
If you are easily offended - look away now! Google Instant obviously feels that we are all easily offended, as in they have created a censored Google Instant Blacklist of words that we can’t see whilst using Google Instant on our searches.
Puppy is okay. Bitch isn’t; yet they can mean the same thing?
If you load up Google Instant and type in the name of sexologist Carol Queen, you get a blank page as soon as you type in the first E of her surname. Now that’s a wee bit over the top, even in the Nanny state that we all live in now!
If you would like to see a list of some of the words that Google Instant have banned, you can view a list here. I would point out that the majority are “rude words“, so don’t go there if you are easily offended.
I have to say that it all seems a bit pointless really, as I really can’t see that someone going to Google Instant typing in the word “Asshole”, for example, is the type of person that is going to be offended by the search results that appear!

I think that yes it is a little extreme to immediately block various words as soon as it becomes apparent that it could be a bad word or phrase however, as some people have already said, some words that could be misinterpreted can be used for other meanings. This is when Google Instant is limiting your searching capabilities and actually preventing you from searching for what you want. There will always be people that search for inappropriate words but this is not a nanny state, or should not be. It is the responsibility of parents and guardians to monitor what their children look at and that is why there are web filters available. I just hope search engines do not start dumbing down it`s facilities further in more oppressive ways.

I think it’s ridiculous too. If you go to Google Instant and type in certain words it means you’re not a person that gets easily offended. As you said, it’s just pointless.
