HSBC UK Third Party Access Scam
This is a very quick scam warning about an HSBC UK Third party access phishing scam. I received a scam email this morning, supposed to be from HSBC UK, saying that my account had been accessed by a third party and and that I had to complete the attached html form to remove restrictions. If you receive a third party access email from HSBC UK - ITS A SCAM - BIN IT and get on with your day.
Here are the details of the HSBC email I received:
Subject: Your account was accesed by a third party (Yes, that’s how these morons spelt “accessed”)
From: Hsbc Uk [notice@hsbc.co.uk] (Yep, Capitalisation issues as well!)
Attachment: Verify.html (26KB)
Dear Customer,
We detected irregular activity on your HSBC Internet banking account on 11/01/2011.
For your protection, you must verify this activity before you can continue using your account.
Please download the document attached to this email to review your account activity.
We will review the activity on your account with you and upon verification,
and we will remove any restrictions placed on your account.
If you choose to ignore our request, you leave us no choise but to temporaly suspend your account. (Yes, that’s how they spelt choice and terporarily)
We ask that you allow at least 72 hours for the case to be investigated and we strongly recommend to verefy (sic) your account in that time. (This is an interesting one, They even inserted a (sic) to point out they know they have used the incorrect spelling on this one. Would it have made more sense to change it? Morons!)
Best Regards,
Colette Nugent

I received the same email yesterday and i knew it was fake as i don’t even bank with HSBC, i would say if you have any doubts at all regarding anything emailed from a bank or any organisation that deals with payment or anything to do with your money at all, contact them yourself before you proceed,

I received an email on 25/01/12, from … “HSBC Bank, UNITED NATIONS OFFICE FOR THE COORDINATION OF HUMANITARIAN AFFAIR, TELL:+44-701-4244928, for delivery via ups courier service. Payment purportedly arranged through HSBC Bank ATM Card Payment Center, via a Certified Bank Draft, issued by the UN Promo, for $315,810.00 USD. The Card Number is 5301236451206***. This was sent by a Dr.Frederick O’Brien. The email contact address is: remittance@hsbcbankonline.in. This was sent to … undisclosed-recipients. As you do not seem to have an email address, other than this contact, I know that this is a scam. I felt that you had to know. I was hoping to pdf this email received, to you. Can you, with this information, trap these people, via Interpol? My father-in-law was caught by a diifferent scam. Therefore, I hope that these people, at least, can be caught. I strongly dislike these people. Whilst I appreciate you sending the card number, there is nothing I can do about this from this end and I can’t print the full card number on my blog, as I have no direct knowledge that this card was used in a scam. I believe you, but printing it, isn’t csomething I can do. Interpol would need evidence, so the only person that can contact them is you. Contact your local police first and they will take it from there. Thanks BM

I also received a “spoof” email from >online@hsbc.co.uk< oms-db04.r1000.mx.aol.com
The worrying thing is,I replied telling them I was passing the details on to the police,a reply came back saying “undelivered” from MAILER-DAEMON but the reply contained a 70kb attachment. So it looks to me like someone in that organisation is as bent as a five pound note too! Forgive me for asking, but why is a five pound note bent? BM
