this is why we informed you. But now HAITONG company wanted to apply for other cn/asia domain names and
Internet Keyword you have not registered yet, like “luxurioz.cn, luxurioz. asia”. It’s china and asia domain name. You must know Domain name takes open registration, this is international domain name registration principle. So HAITONG Investment
company has right to register them. As a domain name registrar, we have no right to dispute their application. So required by China government to inform
your company to protect your interest. But as the company whose trademarks relate to the applied domains,
you will get the priority to register these domain names.

Of course, each company has their own idea. If you don’t think their application will affect your company, you can give up,

My Dad received this email and luckily he has not engaged with them in any way except to say no he will not give up his domain name. These scammers pick their targets well! They most likely know older less tech savvy people will take the bait.

I have drawn a blank with both Yiguan Limited and Hanshin, the company wishing to register the name

On second thought, we decide not to proceed to their registration because we can not confirm their identity and you are not connected with them. We discussed this with our legal counsel and was informed that if the third company was trying to use these domain names in bad faith or do something harmful to your company, we would be hold accountable. They began by naming some ficticious company wanting to register domain names that I was using. Wasn’t too sure if it was genuine but soon realised that the pressure to ‘protect’ myself was just too intense. If someone wants to buy a domain name and its availbale, they just buy it from 123reg or some other company offering low cost domains! I only mention them as that is where I buy mine. It’s a scam because they are lying to you Julie - Nobody is trying to buy these domains and why would you need them anyway - if your website is already established and firing on the search engines and is well optimised, they will never overtake a .com with mickey-mouse asian domain names. The several questions below I should explain to you:
1.The China govertment let us inform the owner before finishing the registration. In fact, we do not want to do this.
2.If you have no relationship with Geitg Holdings , according to our working experience, there are 2 possibilities. Geitg holdings is a domain name investment company, they want to register these names before you and sell back to you to gain
profits; or It may be a commercial method, Geitg Holding consigned by your competitor to register, they are trying
to replicate your idea and let your customers feel confusion.
Because domain name takes open registration (this is international domain name registration principle), Geitg Holdings has right to register it. As a domain name registrar, we have no right to stop their application.
This is also the reason we informed you this issue. I think you must know some cases about the domain names grabbed by third party, and also frequently happens internationally, we also don’t hope that there will be some infringement on the interests of your company in the future.
In another word, I would like to know if you think their registration will confuse your clients and harm your honor and profits.

The website domain name you quote doesn’t exist, but in answer to your question any domain name registrar can register any number of domains. I would have thought that was obvious to anyone, unless this is an attempt at satire? If someone has written to you saying they have contacted you because someone is trying to buy numerous domain names similar to yours, it is more than likely a lie. BM

Greg, it certainly has nothing to do with the subject of the post - Asian domain name scams - but I read the emails that you attached, but it simply appears to be someone trying to place an order with you - a chap by the name of Dave Bills? If he is trying to place an order with you, I can’t see where the scam comes into play? It may be a wind-up or a time-waster, but I would suggest that you request payment up front, that way you’ll know if he’s a timewaster or not - but I don’t understand how he can be scamming you if he is trying to place an order with you? I haven’t printed the emails as if he is a genuine customer, you’d be guilty of breaking data protection laws by posting your correspondance, in full, on here. BM

It’s a scam in asmuch as they are selling you domain names that you don’t need and an internet brand identity that works automatically if your site is well known enough to Google anyway, but should only work in China.

For example, I haven’t paid for the internet brand “Kenkai”, but if you type Kenkai into the google address bar, without http or www, Kenkai.com still comes up. They also charge a small fortune for the domains - but I believe that do get what you pay for, they don’t just run off with the money, the names are registered to you - but again, you can buy them cheaper elsewhere and unless you are aiming for an Asian market, why would you need them?
