Do I Need a Keyword Meta Tag?

Charlie Scott writes to ask, “Do I need to have the keywords in the meta tag on my website to match the topic being discussed? - Do I need a keyword meta tag?”

The keyword meta tag is not currently read by Google but we do include it in our head code, as Google may decide to read it in the future and if this pointless meta tag is used in the future, we don’t want to have to go through every page on over 700 websites to add a keyword meta tag!

Although the keyword meta tag is pointless at present, and has been for over five years, it is important to target the keywords in your article in your Page Title and your Meta Description then simply copy the keyword string into your Keyword Metatag as good practice.
