Ellen Jabo Says:

It seems that you have received “phishing email” message. We are Bobijou Ltd, Registered in England and Wales No. 05610201, never sent you any email nor processed any credit card transaction on your behalf.

We received thousands of calls and e-mails from individuals stating they received an e-mail from the Bobijou Inc confirming an order they never placed. These e-mails are not legitimate order confirmations and have nothing to do with Bobijou.com or Bobijou Ltd.

If you receive an unsolicited e-mail that appears to be from Bobijou.com that requests personal information (such as your credit card, login, or password), or that asks you to verify or confirm your Bobijou.com account information by clicking on a link, that e-mail was sent by a “phisher” or “spoofer.”

Bobijou.com will never ask for this type of information in an e-mail. Do not click on the link. Note that if you did not click on the link in the spoofed e-mail, your account at Bobijou.com is fine. (Even if you did click on the link and go to the forged Web page, but didn’t enter anything, the phishers will not have your account information.)

Bobijou.com does not send order confirmations or other unsolicited requests that require you to open attachments. We recommend that you do not open any e-mail attachments from suspicious or unknown sources. If you receive a suspicious e-mail allegedly sent from Bobijou.com that contains an attachment, we recommend you forward the e-mail to reportphishing@antiphishing.org OR copy both the message HEADER AND message BODY and submit via web form at: http://www.antiphishing.org/report_phishing.htm without opening it. Delete the mail after you send it. If you opened an attachment in the e-mail, we recommend running anti-virus or anti-malware software. Thanks Ellen, it’s good to see a company being pro-active in protecting it’s brand name and trying to help to stamp out the spamming scum that have hijacked their brand name. BM

Be ware

trugannini Says:

TO FIND OUT MORE ABOUT THESE PEOPLE, GO TO hoax-slayer.com/order-received-malware-emails.shtml whatever you do don’t open the attachment.
From Hoaxslayer:

Detailed Analysis
Malware emails masquerading as product order notifications are currently being distributed. The messages purport to be from several different organizations, including Broadcast Music, Puremobile, Bobijou and Warner Music. The emails claim that the recipient’s credit card has been charged for a recent purchase and that more information about the purchase is available in an attached PDF.

However, the organizations mentioned in the messages did not send them as claimed. And the claims that the recipient’s credit card has been charged for a purchase from one of these organizations is untrue. The fake order notifications are designed to trick recipients into opening a malicious attachment.

The attachment contains a maliciously crafted PDF that can exploit vulnerabilities in some older versions of Adobe Reader. If the vulnerabilities are successfully exploited when the attachment is opened, a malicious executable file can be downloaded from an external server. This malware can, in turn, download even more malware components.

The criminals responsible for this malware attack rely on the fact that many people, surprised and concerned by what they believe to be an unauthorized transaction on their credit card, are likely to open the attachment without due care and attention.

Criminals have repeatedly used such tactics to distribute malware. Fake purchase order malware campaigns similar to this are likely to continue. Such campaigns are often successful because perfectly legitimate online payment systems will very often send out order notifications to customers after a purchase has been made. Thus, people who buy online and regularly receive purchase notifications via email may be inclined to believe that the malware messages are genuine. Be very cautious of any email that claims that your credit card or bank account has been charged for something that you did not buy. If you receive such an email, do not open any attachments that come with the email. Do not follow any links in the message as they may lead to malicious websites. If in doubt about a purchase notification email, check with the company directly rather than opening an attachment or following a link.

In order to minimize the risk of succumbing to software exploits, users should always ensure that they are using the most updated versions of programs such as Adobe Reader. They should also ensure that the latest operating system security updates are installed and use virus and malware security software along with a firewall.

Does anyone here say whether the company really charges the card? No they don’t charge the card. They don’t even know your name, never mind your card details. Either way, as long as you haven’t clicked on the link, your card will not be charged.

Found email from Bobijou Inc with a similar message in my spam. The attachment was a zip file “order details” without the extension. Because I work on a Mac I thought it would be unlikely to be a problem if I took a look at the file that was archived in the zip file, so I checked it. It was an .EXE file! I deleted it right away.

what happens if i did open the attachment but did not give any card or personal info? Run a free online malware checker like malwarebytes and you can put your mind at rest. BM

I rec’d this email with the attached zip, but did not open it, I was waiting for the charge to appear on our company CCard. When it did not appear, I looked online & found these comments! Aha! Scammers at it again! Thanks for your post!

Cheryl Says:

They also keep e-mailing me with a fake order. They must be getting my info from Facebook, Classmates or LinkedIn as those are the only places I use my maiden name.

Chris Says:

Just received a very similar but more advanced version, from ‘YesAsia.com’, apparently. Starts with:

Thank you for shopping with YesAsia.com, the No.1 Online Asian Entertainment Store. Your order has been successfully placed. We will process and dispatch your order to you as soon as possible.

Then there’s a plausible order form with a couple of PC accessories on it, then it closes with this:

Once your payment has been received and verified your payment, your order will be processed. The estimated availability information shown during checkout will only apply after your payment has been verified.
This order confirmation has been automatically generated by our order tracking system.
Should you have any questions about your order, please visit the following website for updated order information details at “My Account”.

It’s usually the bad English which gives scams away but this ones pretty good. The attachment is a zip file, probably the same exploit highlighted by trugannini’s post here.

Just wanted to let people know.
