Longhorn RSS Reader

RSS to be integrated with Microsoft Longhorn

Imagine a world where you can subscribe to your wife’s calendar and you can subscribe to your family’s wish lists on Amazon, making purchasing the perfect gifts as easy as a few clicks.

Microsoft have announced that by writing a few ‘glue’ programs into the new operating system, codenamed Longhorn, all this and more will be possible. The programs integrate already existing features in Microsoft software to the new software in Longhorn allowing RSS to not only parse (make readable), but change the way of computing.

In the video posted on Channel 9 forums  the Microsoft Longhorn RSS team will not only be able to make the above possible, but even let us see photoblogs as screensavers.

In the video demonstration, subscribing to an RSS feed sheet through Internet Explorer is as easy as two clicks. Just like adding a favourite.

Once Longhorn is on the marketplace and distributed, the RSS feeds will not only be available to the computer-friendly people of the planet. There will be no installing additional software and complex setting up procedures just to read some RSS feeds. RSS reading and integration with other programs will be part of the operating system.

With the introduction of Longhorn, RSS will become more widely available, easily used and understood. The next step in the evolution of the user-friendly internet is at our feet, and we can do nothing but step forward and find out the benefits and downfalls of using RSS in the ways that Microsoft wants us to.

In the meantime you can still download RSS Reader, FeedReader, SharpReader, or My Yahoo, to read your RSS Feeds.
