Asian Domain name Scammers

Asian Domain Name Scammers

Bob Collingwood from the land of Hotmail sent me a list of dubious web sites that would appear to be website addresses used by Asian Domain Name scammers. Bob tells me that the addresses below have sent out scamming spam emails like the one I mentioned in Monday’s article, Beware of Domain name dispute emails from Asia.

As I didn’t do the research myself, I am merely printing this list for your information. I can make no claim to receiving direct spam from any of the companies listed, other than Wistechnology.asia. Treat any contact from these addresses the way you should with any spam that you receive - with great caution and check, double check and triple check before doing any business with spam-bastards!

Asian domain site addresses to be wary of, if you receive spam from them:

Take a look at this one. We have someone discussing the issue with me. What is their angle?

Dear Tim,

I am sorry to reply you so late.

Yes,you are right.Just because of your company have “Easyonhold”,so we inform of your company. But the domain names registration is open in the world. This is international domain name registration principle.According to the rule,Lee Balanced Ltd has right to register these domain names and Internet Trademark.

If you want to keep these domain names for your company, the best way and only way is to protect these domain names within the dispute period. But if you give up your priority to reigster them,we will finalize the registration for the third party according to the procedures. Please let me know your decision asap,so that we can move on next step.

I look forward to hearing from you.If you have any questions, pls contact me.

Best Regards,

Dear CEO,

We are a domain name registration and dispute organization in Asia, which mainly deal with the global companies’ domain name registration and Internet Intellectual property right protection in Asia.
Currently,we have a pretty important issue needing to confirm with your company.

On Dec 31,2008, we received an application formally.

Many companies are registering and protecting their own Internet Intellectual property right in various methods. These days we are dealing with this case,I wonder whether you consigned Lee Balanced Ltd to register these domain names through us? If yes,we will complete the registration on these domain names.Or you do not even know this company what so ever? Currently,we have postponed this application of this company temporarily already.

I received an email from “SUNNY” as well. I’m so sad to see that he/she was demoted from being an “Attorney at law of Legal Department” (Quincy blog 2-16-09) to working in the “Checking Department”. (Before I found KenKai) I responded to SUNNY’S email and it came back undeliverable. Went to the website listed and got the general contact email address — emailed again and got the same negative response. I thought — well it is in China maybe they are having connection issues — so I faxed my response to Sunny yesterday. The fax was successful and I received another email response today from Sunny.

FIRST RECEIVED EMAIL FROM SUNNY WAS THE SATANDARD YADA-YADA-YADA:

SECOND RECEIVED REQUEST FROM SUNNY:
Dear Mike,
Thanks for your fax. As far as we know, Yadu Investment Co.,Ltd want to apply for the following names and internet brand …….. You would know domain name takes open registration, this is international domain name registration principle. So Yadu Investment Co.,Ltd has right to register it. If you think his registration will confuse your clients and harm your profits, we can send an application document to you and help you protect these domains within our approving period. This is a better way to prevent domain name dispute. If you think his application will not affect your company, you can give up, we will finish his registration. Hope get your decision as soon as possible so that we can handle the next step. Best regards,
Your Sincerely Sunny

I have received exactly the same blurb for our existing domain. Not entirely sure what they are after. I have received a similar one some months ago to which I have responded but it did not lead anywhere. Would be interested if anyone else can confirm that these are scam.

It’s a scam in asmuch as they are selling you domain names that you don’t need and an internet brand identity that works automatically if your site is well known enough to Google anyway, but should only work in China.

For example, I haven’t paid for the internet brand “Kenkai”, but if you type Kenkai into the google address bar, without http or www, Kenkai.com still comes up. They also charge a small fortune for the domains - but I believe that do get what you pay for, they don’t just run off with the money, the names are registered to you - but again, you can buy them cheaper elsewhere and unless you are aiming for an Asian market, why would you need them? Greg Campbell Says:

Recently received this email with comments. Have you heard of this potential scammer?
. . . . . . . . . . . .

Greg, it certainly has nothing to do with the subject of the post - Asian domain name scams - but I read the emails that you attached, but it simply appears to be someone trying to place an order with you - a chap by the name of Dave Bills? If he is trying to place an order with you, I can’t see where the scam comes into play? It may be a wind-up or a time-waster, but I would suggest that you request payment up front, that way you’ll know if he’s a timewaster or not - but I don’t understand how he can be scamming you if he is trying to place an order with you? I haven’t printed the emails as if he is a genuine customer, you’d be guilty of breaking data protection laws by posting your correspondance, in full, on here. BM

3L Says:

Is this webchina-fewo.net.cn also a scam? The website looks real but the contents of the email is very similar to all the posted comments… Can 1 domain registrar register all possible domains name? is this possible? please advice dilemma

The website domain name you quote doesn’t exist, but in answer to your question any domain name registrar can register any number of domains. I would have thought that was obvious to anyone, unless this is an attempt at satire? If someone has written to you saying they have contacted you because someone is trying to buy numerous domain names similar to yours, it is more than likely a lie. BM

Bello Jamal,

I am glad you can contact me in time.
The several questions below I should explain to you:
1.The China govertment let us inform the owner before finishing the registration. In fact, we do not want to do this.
2.If you have no relationship with Geitg Holdings , according to our working experience, there are 2 possibilities. Geitg holdings is a domain name investment company, they want to register these names before you and sell back to you to gain
profits; or It may be a commercial method, Geitg Holding consigned by your competitor to register, they are trying
to replicate your idea and let your customers feel confusion.
Because domain name takes open registration (this is international domain name registration principle), Geitg Holdings has right to register it. As a domain name registrar, we have no right to stop their application.
This is also the reason we informed you this issue. I think you must know some cases about the domain names grabbed by third party, and also frequently happens internationally, we also don’t hope that there will be some infringement on the interests of your company in the future.
In another word, I would like to know if you think their registration will confuse your clients and harm your honor and profits.
In order to deal with this issue better, please make a confirmation with me as soon as possible, so that we can have a have a further discussion. Waiting for you reply.

It’s a scam because they are lying to you Julie - Nobody is trying to buy these domains and why would you need them anyway - if your website is already established and firing on the search engines and is well optimised, they will never overtake a .com with mickey-mouse asian domain names. Thanks for posting this information. My wife actually found your website after we started investigating this e-mail we received yesterday. She immediately suspected it to be spam, but I questioned it at first and replied to this Andy character.

(First email standard, as above, so edited, as running out of space! BM)

Here is his reply to me after I e-mailed him questioning his first e-mail to us.

Dear Travis: anks for your prompt reply. We knew you have registered the domain name “xxxxxxx.com” and own the intellectual property / own the trademark “xxxxxxx”, this is why we informed you. But now the company wanted to apply for other domain names and internet trademark name you have not registered yet. the company wants to apply the following domain names and internet trademark name:
1. Domain Name
www. xxxxxxx.cn
www. xxxxxxx.com.cn
www. xxxxxxx.net.cn
www. xxxxxxx.org.cn
www. xxxxxxx.asia

2. Internet trademark Name
tntride

You must know Domain name takes open registration, this is international domain name registration principle. So the company has right to register them. As a domain name registrar, we have no right to dispute their application. So required by China government to inform your company to protect your interest. But as the company whose trademarks relate to the applied domains, you will get the priority to register these domain names.

If you have business in China & Asia or you want to develop business in China & Asia in the near future, so I think these domain names are very important for you! Of course, each company has their own idea. If you don’t think their application will affect your company, you can give up, we will finish their registration. But if you think these domain names are useful for your company, we can send an application form to you and help you register these within dispute period. This is the only way to prevent domain name grab. Pls let us know your decision soon, so that we can handle the next step.

Best regards, Andy 2009-11-28

Dear Steve Street,

Based on your company having no relationship with them, we have suggested they should choose another name to avoid this conflict but they persist with using this name as CN domain names (.cn/.com.cn/.net.cn/.org.cn) and internet keyword on the internet. In our opinion, maybe they do the similar business as your company and register it to promote his company.
According to the domain name registration international principle: The domain names and internet keyword which applied based on the international principle are opened to companies as well as individuals. Any companies or individuals have rights to register any domain name and internet keyword which are unregistered. Because your company haven’t registered this name as CN domains and internet keyword on the internet, anyone can obtain them by registration. However, in order to avoid this conflict, the trademark or original name owner has priority to make this registration in our audit period.
If your company is the original owner of this name and want to register these CN domain names (.cn/.com.cn/.net.cn/.org.cn) and internet keyword to prevent anybody from using them, please inform us .

Kind regards

On second thought, we decide not to proceed to their registration because we can not confirm their identity and you are not connected with them. They began by naming some ficticious company wanting to register domain names that I was using. Wasn’t too sure if it was genuine but soon realised that the pressure to ‘protect’ myself was just too intense. If someone wants to buy a domain name and its availbale, they just buy it from 123reg or some other company offering low cost domains! I only mention them as that is where I buy mine. Richie Tai Thanks for this S. 123 reg don’t sell asian domain names, but you are correct that there are plenty of companies that do. BM

Dear President,

I’m sorry to disturb you so abruptly.

We are a domain name registration and dispute organization in Asia, which mainly deal with the global company’s domain name registration and internet Intellectual property right’s protection in Asia. Currently, we have a pretty important issue need to confirm with your company.

On May 3, 2010, we received an application formally. One company named “WUG Global Holdings, Inc.” wanted to applied for the Network Keyword “XXX” and some domain names through our body.

Now we are handling this registration, and we found that the keyword of these domain names and network keyword is identical with your company’s. So we have to confirm with you at two points:
1. If your company consign WUG Holdings to register these domain names and network keyword, we will send application form to them and help them finish the registration at once.
2. If your company have nothing to do with WUG Holdings, they maybe have other purposes to register these domain names and network keyword.

We haven’t finished the registration of WUG Holdings yet, and we have postponed this application of this company temporarily already. In order to deal with this issue better, please contact us by telephone or email as soon as possible.

Waiting for your reply ASAP.

From what I have read here this looks very similar and I’m glad I came across it. I’ll be passing it onto local authorities to investigate.

My Dad received this email and luckily he has not engaged with them in any way except to say no he will not give up his domain name. These scammers pick their targets well! They most likely know older less tech savvy people will take the bait.

Dear Manager:

Thanks for your prompt reply. We knew you have registered the domain name “XXXXXX.com ” and own the intellectual property, this is why we informed you.But now HAITONG Investment company wanted to apply for other cn/asia domain names and
Internet trademark Keyword you have not registered yet, like “www.XXXXXXX.cn, www.XXXXXXX. asia”. It’s china and asia domain name. You must know Domain name takes open registration, this is international domain name registration principle. So HAITONG Investment
company has right to register them. As a domain name registrar, we have no right to dispute their application. So required by China government to inform
your company to protect your interest. But as the company whose trademarks relate to the applied domains,
you will get the priority to register these domain names.

Of course, each company has their own idea. If you don’t think their application will affect your company, you can give up,
we will finish their registration. HAITONG Investment company will become the legal owner of these domain names in the world.
You will be responsible for the loss caused by the matter yourself. But if you think these domain names are useful for your company,
we can send an application form and the price list to you and help you register these within dispute period. This is the only way
to prevent domain name grab. Pls let us know your decision soon, so that we can handle the next step.

Looking forward to hearing your reply.

This is what I ‘ve just received yesterday….looks professional, however suspicious….please give me your advice on this…Thank you so much…

Dear Sion,

Thanks for your reply.
If you have no relationship with them. According to our working experience, there are 3 possibilities:
1: Jhbug company is a domain name investment company who wants to register some domain names containing “prestigeidentity” and then sell them back to you to gain profits.
2: It may be a commercial method. Jhbug company was consigned by your competitor to register these names by taking advantage of international domain name registration principle. As an authorized domain registration and dispute organization in Asia, we have the obligation to inform you of this case.
3: Jhbug company may be the biggest competitor of yours in European regions or Asian regions, who wants to invade your European markets as well as Asian markets and confuse your clients as well as to disturb your website and bring harm to the profit of your company.

We knew you have registered the domain name”prestigeidentity.com” and own trademark. This is the reason why we informed you. But now Jhbug company wanted to apply for other domain names and Network Keyword you have not registered yet.
Following are all the domain names and Network Keyword which were submitted by Jhbug company:
Domain names:
prestigeidentity.eu Europe
prestigeidentity.asia asia
prestigeidentity.it Italy
prestigeidentity.ch Switzerland
prestigeidentity.nl Netherlands
prestigeidentity.ru Russia
prestigeidentity.hk Hongkong

Network Keyword:
prestigeidentity

Because domain name takes open registration, everyone can register every unregistered name,So we have no right to stop their application.
But as the owner of the brand of “prestigeidentity”, you will get the priority to register these domain names and Network Keyword. If you think their registration will confuse your clients and harm your intellectual property rights & Trademark, we can send a dispute application form to you and help you register these names within dispute period. This is the best and only way to stop these domains and Network Keyword from being grabbed. If you don’t think their application will affect your company, you can give up and we will finish their registration.

Your decision is badly needed and greatly appreciated. Then we can better handle the next step.

Amy

2. During our preliminary investigation, we found that these Domain Names and the keyword is are as same as your company’s keyword and trademark, this is why we inform you.

3. I wonder whether did you consigned “abutery International Holdings Ltd” to register these Domain Names with us? Or is “abutery International Holdings Ltd” your business partner?

4. If you do not have any relationship with this applicant, we assume that they have other purposes to obtain these Domain Names and Internet Keyword.

Now we have not finished the registration of “abutery International Holdings Ltd” yet, Pls let the relevant principal make a confirmation with me ASAP.
