Longest Domain Name in the World?

Longest Registered Domain Name

After answering Gary’s email regarding long domain names and long directory names, I started to wonder what the longest registered domain name in the world is. I suppose I new the answer, as a legal domain name has to be between 3 and 63 characters in length, so the longest domain name in the world, has to be 63 characters and I suspect there are thousands of people that own domain names of that length, for no other reason than to be able to claim they hold the record for having the biggest ever domain name.

LlanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllLlantysiliogogogoch

The Welsh village of LlanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllLlantysiliogogogoch claim to own the longest domain name in the world, with http://www.llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwll-llantysiliogogogoch.com, beating the other similar domain names, because they stuck a sneaky - into the name, just before llantysiliogogogoch, but it’s only 59 characters in length - even with the sneaky hyphen. There are thousands of domain names longer than that.

I tried to enter a 64 letter domain name with several companies, but none would allow me to exceed 63, so I didn’t bother. Although, I may have, if I had thought of it before Valentines day - as at three quid, it’s a hell of an inexpensive, yet unusual gift; telling your partner that you love them - or asking you to marry them, etc, etc, - with the longest ever domain name in the world! Maybe I’ll buy one for her birthday!
